about

Recorded between February and July, 2020, in Kitty Litter Studios.

Cover Art by Jodie Lowther.

Disclaimers:

"Subjects and Objects" points obliquely to John Ashbery's "Paradoxes and Oxymorons," wherein you will find another title that I pinched years ago.

My reference to "sheltering in place" was written before the COVID pandemic made the phrase common currency.

"Bring Me Out" has nothing to do with Franz Ferdinand's "Take Me Out," which is a good thing.

Some characters in these songs also appear in Middlemarch.

The title "Painted From a Moving Train" is not intended as a revision of Howard Zinn's "You Can't Be Neutral On A Moving Train."

It dawned on me later that while I was writing "Every Single Eye" I had been spending most of my free time listening to the Chills' "Heavenly Pop Hit."

If I had to choose, I would say that "Here Comes The Rain" has more of an affinity with CCR's "Who'll Stop The Rain" than the Eurythmics' "Here Comes The Rain Again."

"Driving Into Town" doesn't need any explaining, even though the lyrics are so hard to hear.
